Our Story

Four operators, one standard.

DEDJ Marketing was founded in the fall of 2018 above a taqueria on East 6th Street in Austin, Texas. Four in-house operators — a growth lead, an analyst, a designer, and a performance media buyer — were tired of watching ambitious brands hire agencies and receive cookie-cutter slide decks in return. They pooled their first retainer, signed a month-to-month lease, and wrote a one-page promise to their future clients. That promise still hangs in the entryway of our Rainey Street studio: senior operators, transparent numbers, opinions worth paying for.

The name DEDJ is the initials of our founders — Daniella, Ethan, Desmond, and Jun — but over the years it has also come to stand for the principles we run on: Data, Execution, Design, Judgment. Every project we accept has to pass all four tests. If we cannot produce clean data, execute fast, design with taste, and exercise judgment that changes outcomes, we pass on the work and refer the prospect elsewhere.

Today DEDJ is a 34-person agency with partners in Austin, Brooklyn, Denver, and a distributed remote bench. We intentionally cap our roster at around 40 active engagements because that is the number at which our leadership can still know every client by name, sit in on every creative review, and personally sign every month-end report. Growth above that number requires hiring we will not shortcut, so we wait.

Our clients range from Series A SaaS companies scaling from $2M to $20M ARR, to DTC brands preparing for retail rollouts, to regional service businesses that simply want their phone to ring. What unites them is a preference for operators over order-takers. If that describes you, we would genuinely like to meet.
